I’ve just learned about an amazing group in Oregon. Read on!

From the Foster Closet blog:

(This isn’t the inside of the store…but it looks very similar.)

It’s time for school again. I’m sure you are all out getting supplies and fun new clothes for your children before this new school year approaches…because that’s what parents do, right?

Well, for Foster Kids it’s a little different. Usually because they either come to you with clothes that are too big, too small or not any clothes at all, they are in greater need. And I wish I could say that the state paid more than enough to help pay for fun clothing, food, extras…..but that’s not the case. And starting in January we all get a 10% pay cut.

So…..the way to take some of the financial burden off foster parents and a way to make shopping fun for Foster Kids is the Foster Closet. A place where the Kids can go “shop” for free, get clothes, shoes, other necessary items that are all in “like new” condition.

This “store” is run by all volunteers (mostly foster parents) and even the store front building is being donated by a generous business person.

Here’s where you come in I’ve copied the flyer with all the information on it and if you have any questions please email me or one of the contact people listed below.

You can be a BLESSING to these Foster Kids in our own county this school year!

Stock the Closet

HELP US STOCK THE CLOSET
We are now collecting Back-to-School Clothing, Coats, & Shoes
from July through the month of September.

We will be holding a special Back-to-School free shopping event for the Foster Children in
Washington County.

YOU CAN HELP US BY DONATING NEW OR
EXCELLENT CONDITION CLOTHING, COATS, OR SHOES in Clothes sizes 4T to Junior/Teens.

Get your donation in NOW.

Remember, a small act of kindness can change a life.

I can think of one group in particular for whom these words would ring a special sound: kids in foster care.

And our friends and Bogota Savings Bank know this, too. They are holding a school supply drive for kids in foster care. The drive will last through Thursday, so if you live in Bogota’s neck of the woods, please stop by with some #2 pencils, binders and rulers. The basics. That’s what these kids–and indeed all kids–need.
