In Florida, Vita Nova is an established, respected organization that empowers youth in their transition from foster care to adulthood. Their work is based on 12 virtues.

From Vita Nova:

The content of the life skills material is carefully joined with 12 virtues designed to create a better foundation for decision making. When residents learn a virtue in conjunction with a life skill they are more apt to understand how to make better choices for the future and understanding where decisions come from. Our virtues are:

  • Patience
  • Honesty
  • Integrity
  • Self-Discipline
  • Trust
  • Perseverance
  • Cleanliness
  • Responsibility
  • Forgiveness
  • Commitment
  • Respect
  • Thankfulness

Vita Nova helps instill these virtues through mentoring and by connecting youth with positive role models. In addition, Vita Nova helps youth who might otherwise become homeless upon leaving foster care by providing a safe place to live. YOU can help, too, if you can provide any of the following to Vita Nova:

  • Towels
  • Bed Linens
  • Pillows
  • Ironing Boards
  • Irons
  • Toaster Ovens
  • Sofas
  • Apartment Furniture
  • School Supplies (Pencils, Pens, Notebooks, Backpacks)
  • Picture Frames
  • Gift Cards (Publix, Target, Wal-Mart, etc…)
