Citizens Caring for Children

I’ve recently learned about a group called Citizens Caring for Children, which is supported by the First Presbyterian Church of Edmond in Oklahoma. From the organization’s website: Citizens Caring for Children provides clothing, shoes, duffel bags, books, school supplies, mentors and other necessities to more than 3,600 foster children each year. The children served have been removed from their homes because of abuse and/or neglect with nothing but the clothing on their backs.  Children in foster care live in your … Continue reading

Well, for Foster Kids it’s a little different. Usually because they either come to you with clothes that are too big, … Continue reading

“Small enough to know you, Strong enough to serve you well”

I absolutely love the motto of Bogota Savings Bank in New Jersey: “Small enough to know you,                Strong enough to serve you well.”   If only other institutions would follow suit. It’s a refreshing change from “too big to fail.” Imagine if our government programs took this approach! Or the companies where we work, places we study or even our local auto repair shops. Small enough to know you: because you are … Continue reading

Spam-o-rama

Hello friends, I was surprised to come home from celebrating Mother’s Day to find more than 1,000 “comments” on this blog. I wish that these were from people like you, who care about foster kids. Unfortunately, the first few hundred were horrible spam and, in the interest of time that I can be spending helping kids, I decided to DELETE ALL. Please, if you would like to reach me, feel free to contact me via DM (direct message) at Twitter. … Continue reading

Mentoring Foster Youth in Alaska

One of the most important aspects of growing up healthy and whole is having someone to trust. Sometimes, kids in foster care don’t have that stable adult role model. From the Alaska Daily News: If you can lend a hand, an ear and some guidance to a foster child getting ready to step out on his or her own, here’s your chance. … Continue reading
